I am Surovi Akter, a visual artist based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. My work is a journey into the depths of human expression and spirituality. I specialize in portraiture, blending the tangible world of realism with the dreamlike qualities of surrealism to explore the nuances of the human spirit. Working across both traditional and digital media, I strive to bring these inner visions to life.
Since 2016, I have had the privilege of sharing my artistic journey internationally, with my work being exhibited at esteemed venues like the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, as well as in galleries across India and Nepal. My practice has been further enriched by experiences like the Kathmandu International Artist Residency (KIAR) and through my work as an illustrator for children’s literature with organizations such as Room to Read.
A profound and lifelong admiration for Japanese art and culture has been a constant source of my inspiration. This passion led me to immerse myself in the language, culminating in winning the 15th Japanese Speech Contest in 2024 and earning my JLPT N3 certification. It is my deepest aspiration to continue this path by pursuing my art studies in Japan, to further bridge my creative practice with the culture that so deeply inspires it.
